Sonic Frontiers 2 — what do you actually want?
-
Frontiers genuinely surprised me. It was rough at launch but after the updates and the Final Horizon DLC it became one of my favourite 3D Sonic games. The open zone formula has real potential.
So — if Frontiers 2 is real (and come on, it probably is), what do you actually want from it? For me: tighter combat, more environmental storytelling, and please let us go fast in the open zones without constantly hitting invisible walls. The Cyber Space levels were fine but the ratio felt off.
Also I'd love to see more of the side characters actually playable rather than just story NPCs. Tails, Amy, and Knuckles being fully available felt like a step in the right direction with Final Horizon — lean into that.

Agreed on the walls issue — they break immersion constantly. I want the open world to feel genuinely integrated with the speed gameplay rather than "big empty space you run across to get to the fun part."
Wishlist: playable Tails with proper flight mechanics, a day/night cycle that actually affects enemy placement and behaviour, and water physics that aren't completely broken.
Also the fishing minigame was weirdly good and I'd like more of that low-key, chill side-content energy somewhere in the game.

Hot take: the Cyber Space levels were the weakest part and I'd cut them entirely or massively rework them for a sequel. Make the open zones the whole game. The momentum-based movement when fully upgraded is genuinely great and I don't want it constantly interrupted by a 90-second boost tube every 10 minutes.
The boost gameplay and the open-world parkour feel like two different games fighting each other. Pick a lane, Sonic Team.

Counterpoint — the Cyber Space levels gave the game its pace. Without them it's just exploration for hours. The issue isn't their existence, it's their repetition and sameyness. If Sonic Team designed three times as many unique stages and spread them further apart it'd work much better.
What I really want though: a proper final boss at launch that isn't behind a DLC paywall. The base game ending was genuinely unsatisfying and it soured a lot of people on the whole experience who didn't stick around for Final Horizon.

I'd be happy if they just polished the Frontiers formula properly. The bones are good. Better animations, a bigger world, more enemy variety, and put in the budget for a complete story at launch. That's it really.
Also Classic Sonic cameo, just saying. Generations 2 vibes. Give the people what they want.
